About Us


MY Pediatric Clinic is a family centered pediatric practice that emphasizes compassionate and individualized care.  By offering an integrated and holistic approach, MY Pediatric Clinic strives to not only treat problems, but to prevent them.  MY Pediatric Clinic believes in treating your children like part of our family and we offer a full range of pediatric services including prenatal visits for expecting parents, well-child check-ups, immunizations and sick appointments up to the age of 21.  We offer a variety of services and believe in listening to the child and parents in addition to doing a thorough physical and ordering any appropriate tests.  MY Pediatric Clinic believes in building a therapeutic alliance and we believes this takes time, cooperation and trust.

Our Clinic

We believe providing your children with a safe and kid friendly environment.  We have a TV in each of our four clinic rooms.  We also have toys for the children to play with as they wait for the physician to see them.  The toys are dilligently washed each day.  MY Pediatrics believes in making the visit fun, safe and enriching.  


The Doctors


Dr. Leila Yoonessi

Dr. Leila Yoonessi is a pediatric pulmonologist practicing in Long Beach, CA.  She practices pediatric pulmonology and general pediatrics.  Dr. Yoonessi holds a BA in psychobiology with a minor in religious studies from Occidental College. She graduated cum laude and was awarded a psychobiology departmental award for her academic achievements. She then studied at the University of Southern California where she earned Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in health care promotion. She went on to complete her medical degree at New York Medical College. She relocated to California to rejoin her family where she completed her pediatric residency at Los Angeles County University Southern California. She is currently a board certified pediatrician who has several research interests.  Publications include Progression and Prognostic Indicators of Bronchial and Alveolar Disease in Children with Sickle Cell Disease, and Environmental factors contributing to lung function and growth velocity decline in Sickle Cell Disease.  Above all, she remains committed to patient advocacy, research, integrative work, medicine, preventive medicine, holistic health, and non-profit work.  Dr Yoonessi enjoys horseback riding, hiking with her 2 Shiba Inus and camping for fun.  Dr Yoonessi Jr. is overjoyed to be working alongside her mother who has always been dedicated to evidence based medicine, charity work, and community outreach projects!

Dr. Roger Takla

Dr. Roger Takla, MD is a board certified neonatologist in Long Beach, California. He is currently licensed to practicemedicine in California. He is affiliated with St. Mary Medical Center and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.  He has 46 years of practice experience.  He received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut and went on to complete his residency at the University of Maryland.  He then completed his fellowship in Neonatology at the University of Southern California.  He served as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the American University of Beirut.  He was also the Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care and Newborn Nurseries at St Mary's Medical Center.


Dr. Shams Yoonessi

Dr. Shams Yoonessi is a pediatrician located in Palos Verdes, California.  She practices pediatrics because she enjoys taking care of children.  She has a longstanding commitment to evidence based medicine.  She attends conferences frequently.    Dr Yoonessi (Sr.) completed her undergraduate and medical school education in Iran.  She then completed her residency and infectious disease fellowship training in the United States of America at prestigous institutions.  She has an excellent bedside manner and is known to be warm and loving.   She is happy to be helping her daughter (Dr Yoonessi, Jr,) learn and grow.  On a personal level, Dr Yoonessi (Sr.) enjoys taking care of her grandchildren and she also loves gardening in her free time.

Leah DeShay (Drexler)
Infant Feeding Specialist


Leah De Shay graduated from La Sierra University with a degree in Psychology and Speech Pathology and Audiology. During that time she did research, charity and disaster relief in 6 countries worldwide, including a senior capstone project on Breastfeeding and HIV in South Africa and Lesotho. She completed her post-baccalaureate work in lactation at University of California, San Diego and went on to get her CLEC (Certificated Lactation Educator Counselor) certificate, and completed her IBCLC (Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant). Leah has since worked in various health care systems including as Welcome Baby Program Director for a pilot in the Providence Health system and a Lactation Consultant in Post Partum, NICU, PICU and L&D at the Santa Monica and Reagan Hospital locations of UCLA. In addition to her clinical practice and as a busy mom herself, Leah also assistant teaches for the UC system Lactation program online.
